Dear Tom,
I own a 2002 Toyota Highlander with 33,000 miles. A Toyota dealer told me that “it is recommended” that I have the serpentine belt changed and the thuttle box serviced. These are dealer recommended services. My mechanic friend looked at the car and told me not to worry about changing the belt or servicing the thuttle box. In your opinion, when is a good time (number of miles) to change the belt and service the thuttle box? Thanks.

Trans Replacement Necessary If Coolant Mixes With Trans Oil

Dear Tom,
I own an ‘04 Dodge Neon that recently broke down because of a ruptured transmission oil cooler tank in the radiator. I took the car to a transmission shop and they told me that both the radiator and the transmission have to be replaced because the antifreeze and the transmission fluid mixed. Do I have to replace the transmission?! Is this covered under a recall?

Customer Service Feedback

We love feedback from customers:

“This is just a quick note to tell you what an asset margaret is to your company and customer service department. My warranty transfer was taking way to long with little results. When i called on numerous accasions i always got margaret. She was always helpful and calm even when i blew up at her which i want to apologize once more for. Sorry Margaret! Anyways i still have no idea what took so long but margaret got it done. I can seriously say i started out not impressed with this company but Margaret changed that impression with her wonderful attitude. I will recommend this company to many a person because of her.

Thank You for your time

Should You Buy An Extended Warranty?

Dear Tom,
I purchased a used ‘09 VW Jetta, with 8,000 miles. The car has a 2-yr/24k mile warranty, and I was offered an additional warranty of 5 yr/75k miles for an additional $1900. Should I buy the extended warranty, or is the standard one enough?
