Don’t Let Your Car Pollute the Air

pollution from cars Almost everyone or every family owns at least one car—sometimes more than one. Unfortunately, using our vehicles to get around is our biggest polluter.

While we await affordable options in Hybrids and alternative energized vehicles, we must still be responsible that the vehicles we drive are kept in good condition to minimize our pollution levels.

Car companies push that bigger is better and the more options the better, and while it’s okay to have those things, keep them inline with the emission standards they are supposed to meet—regular upkeep is important.

Luckily, some manufacturers have been placing improved and enhanced systems into the vehicles we drive such as better emission controls, electronic monitoring systems, engine performance warnings, better air-flow systems, and better exhaust systems.

When suburbs and living out of town became popular, so did the need for more vehicles—more vehicles meant more pollution. Vehicle pollution has been the main attribute of greenhouse gases in both the United States and Canada. Further, our miles-per-gallon are dropping—they used to be higher.

So What Can We Do?

As responsible vehicle owners we need to understand things like fuel efficiency. Fuel efficiency measures how many miles per gallon your vehicle gets. Use the right fuel for the right engine to make sure your fuel efficiency is at the highest of levels. Determine both your city miles and highway miles to make sure your fuel efficiency is where it should be. If it isn’t, have your mechanic check it out.

Your vehicle’s fuel efficiency is essential to our environment. The gasoline and diesel fuels we put in our gas tanks are fossil fuels, including petroleum, and create greenhouse gases and other pollutants that can harm the air we all breathe. As scientist and engineers find better fuel alternatives, we need to keep our vehicles healthy.

To be a responsible and have a good carbon footprint, when you purchase a vehicle, seek out ones that have good fuel efficiencies and ones that get a high mile per gallon feature. If you can afford them, Hybrids can be a good choice and many manufacturers are providing them due to consumer demand. Write to your senators and congress representatives and tell them you demand cheaper Hybrids and more responsible fuel options.

Another way to improve your overall fuel efficiency by as much as ten percent is to consider “how” you drive and change it. Don’t perform jackrabbit starts and slam on the gas as soon as that light turns green. Try and abide by the speed limits on highways and freeways—going fast can actually lower your vehicle’s fuel efficiency.

A Well Maintained Vehicle Can Help

While we all search for ways to reduce our carbon footprint and become eco-friendly to our planet, having a well-maintained vehicle can help. If you keep your vehicle in good shape and by committing to your scheduled maintenance programs, you can dramatically decrease carbon emissions and greenhouse gases.

When your car is out of tune so to speak, that means components of your car are probably dirty or corroding or are full of carbon build up. As this happens the more work your engine has to do so, the more pollution in the air!

We recommending following the owner’s manual you received with your vehicle, especially when it comes to the scheduled maintenance times. Your extended vehicle warranty also requires that you follow maintenance guidelines in order to be eligible for mechanical breakdown repair.

Do your part for the environment and keep your vehicle running at top-notch levels to decrease pollution and the amount of greenhouse gases flowing through the air!

  1. This is so true if more people did this then air pollution wouldn’t be so bad with more and more people driving cars. These are really great tips and suggestions lets hope that more people do this and that the air pollution comes sown. Great post.

  2. yeah i am agree about not let our car populate the air. i am also maintenance my car always to keep good don’t populate the air.
